The 200-point reservation roster is a post-based roster prescribed by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) for implementing reservation in Central Government services where the cadre strength is 14 posts or more.
Legal Basis
The 200-point roster was introduced through:
- DoPT O.M. No. 36012/2/96-Estt.(Res.)
- Dated: 2 July 1997
It replaced the earlier vacancy-based system and ensures that the prescribed percentage of reservation is maintained in a cadre.
Reservation Percentage
For direct recruitment on an all-India basis through open competition:
| Category | Reservation |
|---|---|
| SC | 15% |
| ST | 7.5% |
| OBC | 27% |
| UR | 50.5% |

Important Principles
- The roster is post-based, not vacancy-based.
- Separate rosters are maintained for direct recruitment and promotion where reservation in promotion is applicable.
- Candidates from reserved categories selected on their own merit are adjusted against UR posts, not reserved points.
- After the 200th point, the roster cycle repeats from Point 1.
