Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWSs)

Subject: Reservation for Economically Weaker Sections (EWSs) in direct recruitment in civil posts and services in the Government of Punjab.

Please refer to the No. 1/3/2019-RC1/700 dated 30.10.2020 on the subject cited above.

2. To implement the judgment dated 14.10.2024 of Hon'ble Punjab and Haryana High Court in CWP No. 4264 of 2021 titled Sikander Singh and others v/s State of Punjab and other clubbed cases, the Para 8 (Adjustment Against Reserved Vacancies) of the instructions dated 30.10.2020 is substituted as under:-

"A person belonging to EWS cannot be denied the right to compete for appointment against an unreserved vacancy. Persons belonging to EWS who are selected on the basis of merit and not on account of reservation are not to be counted towards the quota meant for reservation."

3. The instructions issued vide No. 1/3/2019-RC1/196 dated 18.03.2021 are here by withdrawn.

4. This issues with the concurrence of the Department of Personnel received vide I.D. No. 17/33/2019-5PP1/3PP2/141 dated 07.02.2025.
